Tomb Raider II: Starring Lara Croft
Keith's, never returned ~ Used ~ ??/??/??
$0.00
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some slight wear; printed off center
Last played 12/17/10 ~ 12/25/10; no problems

"While Tomb Raider II is far from being a sophomore slump, it alters certain key ingredients to the point where topping the original is simply impossible. There's an endless list of reasons why this is so but then it's the kind of situation that really doesn't benefit from additional dissection. Still when all is said and done Tomb Raider II is the game it is because of the misdirected opinions of fans."

Wild Arms 2
EB Games (W) ~ New ~ 06/01/02
$0.00 ($14.99 + $0.90 = $15.89)
Good condition; disc, manual and inserts

Discs have fingerprint smudges on label side
Tested; game has one or two minor issues

"Unlike the original - which launched a few months before Final Fantasy VII - Wild Arms 2 took a severe beating in the press. While some of the criticism was warranted (the battle graphics were behind the times) a lot of people overlooked the fact the game's narrative was more than capable of carrying the load. The unfortunate part is the same can't be said for the entries beyond this."

Wild Arms
EB Games (D) ~ Used ~ ??/??/??
$??.?? ($19.95 ~ $20.00 + tax)
Good condition; disc, manual and inserts
Manual has some wear; red marker over UPC

Last played 07/25/11; minor sound problems

"Final Fantasy VII may have been my first RPG, but Wild Arms ended up first in my heart and soul. It's kind of difficult to explain how that happened considering it was more of a "filler title" to most but there are few games within the genre that can challenge the impact it had on me. The only question that remains is which is better: the original or the first sequel? A  truly unsolvable paradox...."

Mega Man Legends 2
EB Games (P) ~ Used ~ 06/01/05
$14.99 + $0.90 = $15.89
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"In what is perhaps one of the best Mega Man sequels ever seen, Legends 2 delivers more than more of the same. Improvements to the graphics engine, lock-on system and challenge combine with a storyline that answers previously unanswered questions and creates an extremely comprehensive package and experience. The only problem is it still needs a sequel, something that almost became a reality."

The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
EB Games (D) ~ Used ~ 12/07/05
$2.99 + $0.18 = $3.17
Poor condition; gameplay disc only

Underside of disc is in poor shape
Haven't played; needs to be tested

*Can't comment. Haven't played.*

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
EB Games (D) ~ Used ~ 12/07/05
$1.99 + $0.12 = $2.11
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some slight wear; printed off center
H
ave played in the past; need to test this copy

"Perhaps one of the greatest sequels ever produced and my all-time favorite sports title. In general the improvements over the original are few and far between but the ones that are present (like the addition of the manual) add so much to the experience it's crazy. The only problem with Pro Skater 2 is it literally taps out the experience, leaving future sequels little - if any - room for improvement."

Brave Fencer Musashi
EB Games (P) ~ Used ~ 03/29/06
$13.49 + $0.81 = $14.30
Great condition; discs, manual and inserts
Tested; no problems encountered

"Quite possibly the underrated gem of Squaresoft's 32-bit PlayStation offerings. Many people tend to overlook Brave Fencer Musashi and only remember it for the included Final Fantasy VII demo; but where my opinion of that title has greatly soured over the years, I have only come to appreciate Brave Fencer (and it's very clever sense of humor) more. Granted some of that has to do with the sequel."

SaGa Frontier
EB Games (P) ~ Used ~ 07/12/06
$8.99 + $0.54 = $9.53
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual and insert is from Dave and Dan's copy
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Winner of the prestigious 'one man's trash is another man's treasure' award it's easy to see why SaGa Frontier failed as a follow-up to Final Fantasy VII. But while the game doesn't garner the same amount of love  as other Sqauresoft products, SaGa was ultimately left out to dry. Regardless, the game became a cult classic even though a lot of it's inner workings were left unfinished and unexplained."

SaGa Frontier
Trade with Dave and Danny ~ Used ~ 12/??/06
$0.00 (trade)
Fair condition; disc only
Manual and insert was transfered to other copy
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

Resident Evil 2
STC; dean_cowder ~ Used ~ 05/04/07
$15.00 (came with official strategy guide)
Good condition; discs, manual and inserts
Front insert has a crease running through it
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Blunt as the comparison might seem, Resident Evil 2 is the PlayStation equivalent of Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. It's an excellent sequel that doesn't make too many changes yet the smallest of those changes takes the product to a whole new level. A negative is born out of such a leap however as the original Resident Evil - important as it is - takes a direct hit on the chin."

Mega Man Legends
STC; ??? ~ Used ~ ??/??/??
$0.00 (Trade)
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Back insert has slight damage due to shipping
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"While purists claim Mega Man Legends isn't a Mega Man game because it deviates so much from the series' side-scrolling roots, it and the series succeed in innumerable ways; from it's endearing cast of characters, stellar voice acting and making certain other 3D Mega Man games look like trash, the massive helping of heart overshadows the occasional shortcomings present within the gameplay."

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
eBay; mikenamy1984 ~ Used ~ 09/25/08
$38.50 + $4.95 = $43.45
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some slight wear and creasing
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"While it's not quite on the level of Final Fantasy VII or Xenogears, Symphony of the Night is a case where an excellent game may be on the verge of receiving an overdose of notoriety. The game remains brilliant and the ingenious level design easily crushes anything that followed but at the end of the day I feel there is no need to trumpet it's success - there are plenty of others out there still doing that."

Mega Man X4
eBay; restrainingorder ~ Used ~ 09/25/08
$8.99 + $4.00 = $12.99
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Last played: 08/09/10 ~ 08/12/10; no problems

"Originally planned as a Sega Saturn exclusive along with Mega Man 8 due to Sony's shortsighted licensing practices, Mega Man X4 deserves to be mentioned alongside other great PS1 sidescrollers like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Granted it may not be on the same scale as that title but when a sequel gives the original this kind of run for its money someone's doing something right."

Doom
eBay; toadandtoadstore ~ Used ~ 09/27/08
$25.78 + $4.63 = $30.41
Good condition; disc, manual and long box
Long box has a few dents on the front
Last played: 05/09/11 ~ 05/16/11; no problems
"While it's disappointing that sacrifices had to be made to the level designs to optimize Doom and Doom II for their PlayStation debut it is easily the best 90's port of the game for the home consoles. The game feels right on the PlayStation controller by there is obviously no dual shock support because of the product's age. Additionally, the lack of memory card back-up is another shortcoming.

Twisted Metal 4
ebay; ca_cheapskate ~ Used ~ 09/27/08
$6.95 + $4.75 = $11.70
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some slight wear and creasing
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Twisted Metal 4 is still home some of the problems that plagued 989's first attempt at a Twisted Metal (the cars and characters are still horrible) but the improved level design and weaponry make it a pretty good apology for the aforementioned trainwreck that was Twisted Metal III. Still there will be some fans of the original two games developed by SingleTrac that will not feel the need to bother.

Tomb Raider
eBay; autoandboatwarehouse ~ Used ~ 09/28/08

$?.?? ($4.03 + $6.68 = $10.71 for three TR games)
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some significant wear and creasing
Last played: 11/13/10 ~ 11/16/10; no problems

"Despite the fact that it probably doesn't deserve a ten out of ten, the original Tomb Raider is easily one of the most influential games I've every played. There aren't many games I can say about that (the only other one that comes to mind is Mega Man II) but along with Square's Final Fantasy VII Tomb Raider sold me on the PlayStation. The bad part? The sequels don't even come close... at all.

Metal Gear Solid
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 11/06/08
$5.95 + $0.36 = $6.31
Good condition; disc manual and inserts

Manual has some significant wear and creasing
Last played: 12/02/10 ~ 12/06/10; no problems

"A game that is a lot of different things to a lot of different people, Metal Gear Solid is an experience that doesn't quite live up to the legacy its fans have forged for it. With its narrative outgunning its gameplay by a mile it's not long before one realizes such sacrifices aren't without consequence. The game wins the glorious battle but loses the drawn-out war."

Mega Man X5
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 11/13/08
$10.95 + $0.66 = $11.61
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Following up the stellar Mega Man X4 with the ultimate in mediocrity, Mega Man X5 is mainly saved by the passing of events alluded to in previous games and it's own ending climax. Unfortunately, as befitting as the later was meant to be, its impact would be diluted by the recon born out of Mega Man X6's development and eventual existence."

Mega Man X6
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 11/13/08
$10.95 + $0.66 = $11.61
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"The poster child for corporate greed overruling artistic vision, Mega Man X6 is an ugly game that should, quite frankly, not exist. But it does exist and we have to live with the fact that it was shot out of Capcom's development studio faster than all get out just in time for the holidays. But hey, at the end of the day I still bought it, so who's the real sucker here?"

Breath of Fire III
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 07/11/09
$14.95 + $0.90 = $15.85
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some slight wear
Tested; no problems encountered

"Like the games before it, Breath of Fire III may be a little too comfortable with the J-RPG essentials we've come to know and love. There are only a couple of areas where the game takes any kind of calculated risk but recreating that old-school magic of yesteryear was what Capcom was aiming for. Perhaps this is why the game has aged so well, almost like a fine wine.

Mega Man 8: Anniversary Collector's...
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 10/21/09
$6.95 + $0.42 = $7.37
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Includes full-color anthology booklet
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Once known as the cutest Mega Man title in existence, Mega Man 8 lost that crown to 2006's Powered Up, but rest assured that it has plenty of other annoying claims to fame to fall back on. The most disturbing has to be the fact it actually outsold the superior Mega Man X4. I'm still trying to contemplate how that happened considering it adds nothing to series' continuity."

SoulBlade
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 01/11/10
$7.95 + $0.48 = $8.43
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some creasing; red marker over UPC
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"There is little doubt that SoulBlade is the ultimate weapon-based fighter on the PlayStation. The game was simply not satisfied in offering the standard modes one finds in every one-on-one fighter and goes the extra mile with it's excellent (and infuriating) Edge Master Mode which would prove so popular that it would be used at the blueprint for similar modes in the future Soul Caliber games."

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 03/04/10
$10.95 + $0.65 = $11.60
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert

Back insert has some minor damage
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"While I have to question Sony's sanity when it tried to rile up competition between Crash Bandicoot and Mario 64 I generally have good memories of the PlayStation Crash titles. The only negative thing I can say that's related to those memories is the fact that they are very foggy and are in definite need of revisiting. Hopefully when I play it at some point Warped will be the game I remember it being."

Final Fantasy IX
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 03/04/10
$14.95 + $0.90 = $15.85
Good condition; discs, manual and inserts
Discs have an odd texture to them
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"When it comes to throwback titles there are few games as successful as Final Fantasy IX. Granted some may be disappointed by the inability to customize their characters to the degree allowed in Final Fantasy VII and VIII but such simplicity is hardly the vice some make it out to be. Still, if I was going to pick at any individual element of IX it would be the villains - I'm not the biggest Kuja fan.

Twisted Metal 2
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 05/03/10
$5.95 + $0.36 = $6.31
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some significant wear and creasing
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Perhaps the most important title in Twisted Metal's long and storied history, Twisted Metal 2 is another case where the sequel outdoes the original without doing anything too radical to the underlying formula. Like the original many will call into question its graphical shortcomings but then such concerns where voiced when it debuted as well. But then Twisted Metal was always more about the chaos.

Breath of Fire IV
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 06/01/10
$32.95 + $1.98 = $34.93

Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Back insert has some slight damage
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Like the games before it, Breath of Fire IV leaves many of the usual role-playing calling cards alone and again focuses on the areas unique to the series. However, as simple as such a plan is at its core, there's an odd sense of dullness that presides over the entire experience that ultimately transforms what is a well-crafted title into a dry, touch-and-go affair that never really pops off the screen.

Silent Hill
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 06/05/10
$17.95 + $1.08 = $19.03

Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some significant wear and creasing
Tested; no problems encountered

*Can't comment. Haven't played.*

Castlevania: Chronicles
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 07/12/10
$17.95 + $0.57 = $18.52
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert

Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Castlevania: Chronicles is a real oddity. While I don't have a problem with old-school Castlevania (even though Ninja Gaiden kind of trumps the older titles until you get to Super Castlevania IV) I can't imagine a product such as this being the answer to those who were hungry for more after completing Symphony of the Night. Chronicles has noble goals but they're somewhat misdirected."

Syphon Filter 2
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 08/01/10
$5.95 + $0.35 = $6.30
Fair condition; discs, manual and inserts

Manual has some slight wear and creasing
Last played: 11/22/10 ~ 11/27/10; problems

"Syphon Filter 2 sticks with what it knows and gives fans more of the same with a few tweaks and improvements. While it's not exactly the most inspiring blueprint for a sequel, the strategy is a success until the narrative starts to buckle under its own weight, resulting in a product that feels a little more touch and go than the original."

Final Fantasy Tactics
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 08/10/10
$10.95 + $0.66 = $11.61
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert

Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"While Final Fantasy Tactics' storyline is nearly unintelligible because of localization issues, the story really plays second fiddle to the gameplay which is more then rewarding. While this would seem to make for a slam-dunk of a recommendation, like other role-playing games this positive becomes a negative as it is often hard to justify the investment of time required to complete the game's campaign."

Syphon Filter
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 08/12/10
$5.95 + $0.36 = $6.31
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some slight wear; marker over UPC
Last played: 11/19/10 ~ 11/21/10; no problems

"There's one absolute certainty when the discussion turns to Syphon Filter: the comparison to Metal Gear Solid. While it falls short of such a plateau it's hardly the dagger some make it out to be. In fact, by sacrificing a little quality for some quantity (and indulging in the genre's deeply rooted cheese factor) Syphon Filter manages to carve out a comfortable little niche for itself."

Final Fantasy VII
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 09/22/10
$37.95 + $2.28 = $40.23
Good condition; discs, manual and inserts
Manual has some slight wear and creasing
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"A tale tell example of a game that's been hurt by the hype. While I couldn't imagine excluding Final Fantasy VII from a conversation about how I got into the role-playing genre (it was my first RPG after all) I really have no problem leaving the game and it's over-zealous fans to their own devices. If I was going to talk up a 32-bit RPG it would be something that's underrated - not overstated."

Rival Schools
eBay; kenny224pink ~ Used ~ 10/09/10
$22.05 + $5.35 = $27.40
Great condition; discs, manual and inserts
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Star Gladiator is in good company with Rival Schools, another Capcom fighter that wasn't quite the breakout hit Capcom would have liked it to be. Unfortunate as that may be, the PlayStation port comes loaded for bear with a heaping helping of extras despite the fact the character creation mode was nixed due to localization issues but the Japanese voice acting was (thankfully) left untouched."

Star Gladiator
eBay; jamesbond15007 ~ Used ~ 10/12/10
$11.99 + $3.00 = $14.99
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some slight wear; writing inside
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"While Capcom's first foray into three dimensional fighting can't quite pony up the kind of longevity needed to challenge Soul Blade's crown as the best weapon-based fighter on the PlayStation it still makes a great companion piece to that title. It's easy to see how the game never caught on (it did spawn a lackluster sequel) but it definitely deserves a little more attention than it received in the end."

Battle Arena Toshinden (pack-in)
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 10/16/10
$3.95 + $0.23 = $4.18
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"As important of a title as it was for the PlayStation's launch it didn't take long for Toshinden's star to die out as superior competition from Capcom and Namco took it's toll. Inevitable as this was I still have a soft spot for the original Toshinden's characters and music. Additionally, the game looks even better once it's compared side by side with its two immediate sequels which were rather lazy works."

Destruction Derby 2
eBay; agreatselection ~ Used ~ 10/16/10
$14.99 + $3.00 = $17.99
Good condition, disc, manual and back insert
Tested; no problems encountered

"Destruction Derby 2 is pretty much the racing equivalent of Mortal Kombat 3. It's a more than decent game and experience that is completely and savagely ripped apart by some of the most ruthless computer intelligence you will ever see. It's a real shame as the game generally delivers on every other front but as it stands you'll find its much more fun to watch than it is to play."

Syphon Filter 3
eBay; gmcomm2010 ~ Used ~ 10/18/10
$10.99 + $3.98 = $14.97
Great condition; disc, manuals and inserts
Last played: 11/14/10 ~ 11/17/10; no problems

"As one would expect, Syphon Filter starts to show it's age with its third installment. Despite this inevitability, the game takes things slow by turning previous storyline footnotes into full-fledged missions and fleshes out the handful of characters introduced by its predecessors. Simple as it seems such a ploy works and makes the game feel a lot more special than it really is."

Resident Evil
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 11/21/10
$10.95 + $0.66 = $11.61
Fair condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has some significant wear and creasing
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"The situation presiding over the first two Resident Evil games is akin to the first two Ninja Gaiden titles on the Nintendo; the sequel makes some small (but awesome) improvements yet those improvements make it that much better of a product. Unfortunately, unlike the first Ninja Gaiden, the gap between the original Resident Evil and the second just makes the original look more antiquated than it really is."

Tomb Raider: Chronicles
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 12/01/10
$5.95 + $0.35 = $6.30
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert

Last played: 01/08/11 ~ 01/18/11; no problems

"While it may be the similarities it shares with Syphon Filter 3 when it comes to it's method of storytelling, Tomb Raider: Chronicles is a lot more resourceful than a mere glance would suggest. There are a few moments (as strange as they may be) that make me regret giving up on the series after Tomb Raider III. It is definitely a suggested stop for those that lost in the series at that point like I did."

Memory Card (Official)
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 12/06/10

Good condition; card only

Tomb Raider III (2nd Press Black B)
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 12/06/10

$5.95 + $0.35 = $6.30
Poor condition; disc, manual and back insert
Manual has significant water and crease damage
Have played other copies; need to test this copy

"Truth be told it's easy to see why Tomb Raider III was the last Tomb Raider title I played during the reign of the original PlayStation; the stout challenge factor being a befitting example of how a game tires to fire on all cylinders in an effort to hide it's deficiencies. The facade comes crashing down however as the game fails at keeping its magic veil draped over the ugliness and desperation within."

Legend of Legaia
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 12/13/10
$14.95 + $0.90 = $15.85
Good condition; disc, manual and inserts
Manual and label side of disc has slight wear
Last played: 04/06/11 ~ 05/05/11; no problems

"Legend of Legaia's initial appeal is easily summed up by its combat system. Unfortunately, as clever as the Tactical Arts System is in reality, it ultimately fails to make up for the aspects of the game/genre that haven't evolved. Once the problems born of that conundrum bleed over into the game's calling card there's no way the experience can maintain the altitude it needs to be a top-tier title."

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 01/10/11
$5.95 + $0.35 = $6.30
Good condition; disc, manual and back insert

Manual has some slight warping on back
Have a playthrough started; problems encountered

"After Tomb Raider II and III more or less took Lara out of the tombs the first game was known for the Last Revelation is an attempt to reintroduce her to her roots. Regrettably, despite the cleaner engine performance and general improvements this outing proves it's easier said than done and it's clear that the time for accomplishing such a large and complex goal was way before this point."

Einhander
amazon.com; hailey22 ~ Used ~ 02/16/11
$33.90 + $3.99 = $37.89
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert
Tested; no problems encountered

"One of those titles I wish I had discovered earlier, it's not hard to see how Einhander got buried in the massive index of role-playing games being released during the PlayStation's heyday. Unfortunate as it may have been to allow it to go unexperienced for so long it's nothing a quick run-through now and then can't fix and remains fun despite the fact that I'm simply horrible at it."

Final Fantasy Origins
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 02/28/11

$14.95 + $0.90 = $15.85
Great condition; disc, manual and back insert

Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"Out of the three Final Fantasy "packages" Square released for the PlayStation Origins is probably the best one even though it offers up an infinitely flawed product like Final Fantasy II. The remake of the original Final Fantasy is the obvious highlight and makes it much easier to enjoy that title without having to worry about fiddling around with the battery back-up on the good old Nintendo cart."

Xenogears
eBay; stevelxii ~ Used ~ 04/14/11
$59.99 + $6.35 = $66.34
Great condition; discs, manual and inserts
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"When it comes to video games, an unbridled since of ambition is something you want your product to radiate before it ever enters the players console. But just like anything else too much ambition is bad and can lead one to bite off more than they can chew. This is the story of Xenogears, an overly ambitious project that left the most important element in gaming - fun - far, far behind it's narrative."

Chrono Cross
Video Game X-Change (D) ~ Used ~ 05/29/11
$14.95 + $0.90 = $15.85
Great condition; discs, manual and inserts
Have played in the past; need to test this copy

"In not being the biggest fan of Chrono Trigger it should be of little surprise that Chrono Cross fails to impress me. But where I have respect for Chrono Trigger the only thing I can respect here (in one of the most conflicted sequels I've ever played) is the beautiful graphics and battle engines. If you could combine those elements with a better story there'd really be something here."

Final Doom
eBay; bsrogers ~ Used ~ 07/11/11
$17.99 + $3.50 = $21.49
Manual has creasing; scratches on disc label side
Last played: 07/13/11 ~ 07/18/11; no problems

"Determining the roundabout worth of Final Doom for the PlayStation is a tricky question. While some will obviously be displeased at the limited, pot-luck selection of material that made the cut the package is ultimately of value because of the inane way the PC version of the Master Levels was set up. The main drawback is the immense size of the levels comes at the expense of graphic fidelity."

"Instrumental in forging the PlayStation brand as an edgy and more wreck loose property than its competitors early on, Twisted Metal may be as ugly as sin but that didn't stop it from being the kind of title the console needed at the time. While the original doesn't quite stack with the first sequel it's safe to say Twisted Metal had more of a future than Toshinden despite running into its own problems."

"If there was a list of games that desperately needed to be remade Parasite Eve would be at the top (or near the top) of that list. Beyond the magnificent techno-based soundtrack the game has failed to age well and the concept behind it's narrative can only carry it so far. As for the list of improvements that should make the cut the second time around you can count me in for a run/dash and dodge button."
